We are seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant for a permanent, full-time opportunity in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This position provides anatomic pathology services under the direction of a qualified pathologist.
The schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM–6:00 PM. Pay is up to $63/hr DOE, with up to $10,000 in relocation assistance potentially available, subject to hiring leader approval.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide anatomic pathology services under the direction of a qualified pathologist
- Perform gross processing of operating room and clinic specimens
- Photograph specimens and assist with the preparation of surgical pathology reports
- Teach first- and second-year residents proper grossing techniques
- Assist with specimen processing to support timely completion
- Implement tissue-based research protocols
- Coordinate research specimen procurement, processing and investigator notification
- Maintain written research protocols in the operating room pathology laboratory
- Review resident rotation schedules with chief and senior residents
- Answer attending pathologists’ questions regarding gross specimen dictation and orientation
- Provide data for monthly Surgical Pathology Quality Assurance reports
- Maintain and update the gross specimen handbook
- Maintain surgical pathology protocols, reports and photographic records
- Maintain microscopic slides, specimen coding and billing documentation
- Help ensure equipment is properly maintained
- Monitor supplies and maintain the cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite
Education & Certification
A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required.
Candidates must also meet one of the following pathways:
- Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program and eligibility for registry
- ASCP Pathologists’ Assistant certification must be obtained within one year of hire
OR
- Active ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant, provided the certification was obtained before 2010
The pre-2010 requirement applies only to the certification-based alternative. It does not apply to recent graduates of NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant programs.
